Janaki receives first MS Baburaj award


Renowned playback singer S. Janaki received the first M.S. Baburaj foundation award for her outstanding contribution to the Malayalam music industry. Director Kamal presented the award in a function organised in remembrance of music composer Baburaj at Kodugallur police station ground. The award consists of Rs. 1 lakh and a memento.
Paying tribute to the legendary music composer, Janaki sang the first line of 'Deva...Deva ..'. The music of the song was composed by M.S. Baburaj and lyrics were penned by late P. Bhaskaran.
The event, inaugurated by Minister K.B. Ganesh Kumar, was presided over by T.N. Prathapan. Critic and journalist Ravi Menon delivered the memorial speech. The event was followed by a music concert.

Shakthi to tie the knot on Oct 31


Shakthi, son of renowned director P. Vasu, is all set to enter marital bliss. The wedding will take place at Mayor Ramanathan Chettiar Hall, MRC Nagar on  October 31st. The bride-to-be Smrithi is a B.Com graduate from Stella Maris in Chennai. Industry biggies across South Indian are expected to be present at the function. Shakthi and Smrithi's engagement was held at a star hotel in Chennai earlier this year.
Shakthi is currently working on three projects: Edho Seigirai Ennai, Kalla Sirippazhaga andVanjikottai Vaaliban.

Urumi (Tamil) in November


The Tamil version of cinematographer-director Santosh Sivan's magnum opus Urumi with Prithviraj, Genelia, Vidya Balan, Tabu and Prabhu Deva in the lead roles is likely to grace theatres in November!
The English version has been titled Vasco Da Gama, while the Tamil version is Pathinaindham Nootrandu Uraivaal (PNU). Based on the attempted assassination of Portuguese explorer Vasco Da Gama, who arrived in Kappad near Calicut, on May 20, 1498, the film is produced by Santosh Sivan, Prithviraj and Shaji Natesan under the banner of August Cinema. Music is by Deepak Dev, a former keyboard player with A.R. Rahman. The film, which has been appreciated by critics and audience like, was recently screened at the prestigious Busan Film Festival.
